Below are the required certifications needed for all paid coaching positions (BMS & OHS). Coaches are responsible for maintaining the proper certifications throughout their season(s). 

1) Pupil Activity Permit  AKA “PAV” (issued by Ohio Dept. of Education)  All coaches are required to have a current FBI/BCI background check (on file in the Central Office- OCSD). In addition, all applicants must provide a certification of completion of an approved concussion class [see below]. All PAP applicants must use the ODE Safe Account System to apply. The Department of Education NO LONGER ACCEPTS paper applications. click here for more info on the PAP. Application cost is $45.00.

FBI/BCI BACKGROUND CHECKS– Current cost is $46.00 [if through OCSD HR Dept.]



2) Concussion Training– all coaches are required to complete an approved concussion training course that outlines proper guidelines when handling a concussion and the return to play protocol. This certificate must be updated when you apply for your new or renewal PAP (every three years). Current cost is $FREE.

3) Fundamentals of Coaching [NFHS] all coaches are required to take the NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching with the Ohio Component. This certificate is currently a one-time only certificate. Current cost is $65.00.

4) CPR/AED– all paid coaches are required to have a current CPR/AED card issued by one of the below listed providers. Classes should be taken in person as opposed to online. Certificates are good for 2 years. Cost varies. TIP- contact local Fire Dept. to see if they offer classes.

American Red Cross– (must be classified as Child/Adult CPR/AED)
