2020 Orange High School Fall Sports Preview: Varsity Field Hockey

         Head Coach: Eileen Dodson

Seniors: Emma Herbruck, Delaney Lancry, Danielle Naar, Morgan Shagrin and Sydney Shagrin

Varsity Field Hockey has several expectations that they wish to reach this fall, but understand that with the coronavirus pandemic, it is best not to set those expectations too high as their time may be limited.  As the team looks ahead to their shortened season for this fall, Coach Dodson was very clear in her beliefs that the team needs to focus practicing with one another, learning how to play with each other and learning their tendencies.  Coach Dodson explained the following, “There are eight new players on the roster this fall and with the season being shortened, the team’s main goals are to really focus in practice to improve their skill set and enjoy the season in a safe environment to allow the girls to get their full season in.”

The team has four seniors this season who have been together for a while now and should set a strong example of leadership for the younger players this year.  One common theme between the four of them is that they hope to be able to take ownership of their mistakes, set a good example of how to conduct themselves, and lead by example for the younger players.  Playing a full season while still following protocols to the best of their ability was another key thing seeing as all four seniors wish to experience their Senior Night and are really hoping for an exciting final season.

With a few players to watch out for this season that could make a large impact on the outcomes of the game, the Lions are led by senior goalie, Sydney Shagrin, who looks to improve upon her strong junior season and be a wall in net once again for the Lions this fall.  The other two players to watch are field players Macy Fletcher and Kaitlin Alarafi.  The team will look to them to lead the attack and power the offense this season.
