Multiple Teams · Orange Welcomes New Head Boys Basketball Coach

The Orange Athletic Department would like to welcome Coach Ashen Ward to the Lion Family. Coach Ward is entering his first season as Head Coach of the Orange High School Boy’s Basketball program. In high school, Ashen earned four varsity letters at Villa Angela-St. Joseph High School and averaged 16.0 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2.5 assist per game as a senior. In 2007, he was named the Division III Player of the Year and earned First Team All State honors both his junior and senior seasons. He was able to reach the Division III Final Four 3 consecutive seasons and was also named team captain. Coach Ward, a native of Cleveland has spent the last four seasons as the varsity assistant and junior varsity head coach at Villa Angela – St. Joseph High School. During his time there, he helped contribute to the Vikings winning two State Championships (15’, 17’), appearing in four consecutive title games since 2014. The Vikings also won the North Coast League Conference each of the four years. Ward, a 2013 graduate of Youngstown State University, began his coaching career at Girard High School in 2012-13, where he served as a volunteer. That year, the Indians of Girard reached the district semi-finals. Before beginning his coaching career, Ward played four years of college basketball at Youngstown State University for Jerry Solcum where he was named a team captain, presented the Bill Daley Leadership Award and was also a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. At YSU, Ward became the only 2nd player to make 50 three pointers in a single season since 2007 and he ranks in the top 5 in school history in three pointers made. While at YSU, Ward earned his bachelor’s degree, majoring in Special Education. We welcome Coach Ward to the Lion’s Den and wish him luck!
